The new Milazzo dock managed by Duferco Terminal Mediterraneo is officially operational. This project, developed by the Duferco Group, is part of the redevelopment plan for the Giammoro industrial area, presented last year at the Chamber of Commerce of Messina.
Milazzo. An investment of approximately 28 million euros has enabled the Duferco Group to redevelop the Giammoro industrial area and create a new integrated logistics hub serving global trade and the economic growth of the Mediterranean region. Once fully operational, the facility will employ 50 workers.
Just yesterday, under the coordination of the Milazzo Port Authority and the Strait Port System Authority, the berthing and unloading operations of the first merchant vessel arriving at the new Duferco terminal were successfully completed. The “Deo Volente”, arriving from the Port of Marghera, transported a transformer weighing about 130 tons destined for the Raffineria Mediterranea di Milazzo.
The success of the operation marked the beginning of full operations at the Duferco terminal, which, strategically located between Milazzo and Messina, aims to serve as a strategic logistics platform for commercial flows between Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. The terminal is designed to integrate maritime, road, and rail transport, offering advanced and sustainable intermodal services.
“The management of the first unloading was flawless,” said Domenico Campanella, CEO of Duferco Italia Holding. “It demonstrates the full efficiency and functionality of our terminal: the cargo—a 130-ton transformer—was unloaded professionally directly onto the special transport vehicle, allowing it to be ready to depart again in no time. With DTM, we aim to make Sicily a benchmark for international trade in the Mediterranean, combining technological innovation, operational efficiency, and environmental sustainability.”
Duferco Terminal Mediterraneo offers a full range of services including vessel berthing and embarkation, stowage, warehousing, customs operations, and related services. Furthermore, the first container ship is scheduled to arrive in June.
